Junior Horticulture
Day
In 2004, Bonfante Gardens Family Theme Park introduced the first Junior
Horticulture Day. Under the guidance of countless community members, teachers
and volunteers, Junior Horticulture Day was created to offer students the
opportunity learn and experience first hand the importance trees
and plants play in our daily lives.
This day of plant-based science was provided to over 1000 students in
our surrounding community at no cost to the students, their families or
schools. The program included educational activity materials, lunch, admission
to the park and an event t-shirt. This one-of-a-kind experience gave
many children an opportunity to visit the park, when they may not have
been able to do so on their own.
Students participated in activities throughout the day including Plant
Labeling, Rock Experiments, The Water Cycle, Composting, Garden Scavenger
Hunt, plus an opportunity to enjoy some of the park's rides and attractions.
Bonfante Gardens rides and attractions are designed for the enjoyment
of families with young children and garden lovers and are created to educate
guests and foster a greater appreciation of the natural world and man's
ability to shape it.
This very special event was completely funded by and would not have taken
place if it were not for the generous donations of countless community
members, schools, businesses and community organizations.
As we look toward to our 2006 Season, Bonfante Gardens is looking forward
to providing this event once again and hopes to be able to expand this
program to include neighboring districts, possibly providing this experience
to over 2000 students.
We are again looking for the generous support of our local community
members, organizations and businesses to help make this event a success.
Please contact us on ways you or your company or organization
can help make this event a reality and provide a wonderful educational experience
to the children of this community.
Fully funded classes are chosen to participate in this program
by members of the Board of Directors and Education Committee and are typically
local schools in our surrounding community. Schools not selected can still
have an opportunity to participate in this wonderful program for a small
per-student fee. Information about this event will be forwarded to schools
throughout our surrounding cities.
